One benefit of chiropractic care & osteopathic treatments are that they help people minimize or eliminate the use of drug treatments. Prescriptions are oftentimes supplied to people who have back pain. This is such a serious concern that the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) issued a press release stating that opioid (painkiller) dangers outweigh the benefits when administered for back pain.
Some of the most well-known opiates, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, include hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone (OxyContin and Percocet), morphine, and codeine. Numbers presented by the AAN mention the fact that roughly 50% of the people taking these drugs for a period of three months are still on them five years down the road. This can further complicate the problem of back pain and recovery, particularly if an opiate addiction arises.
Contrast that to chiropractic and/or osteopathic treatments which engages natural healing and the benefits are evident. While a pill might be useful at temporarily relieving the discomfort of a health condition, it's not a solution to the problem. Drugs can't mend your damaged spine; it will only conceal the pain.
